2024 Nakijin Castle Cherry Blossom Festival

  • Events

Nakijin Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dates back to the Ryukyu Kingdom era, serving as a fortress and residence for local rulers. Its strategic location and historical importance make it a symbol of Okinawa’s rich and diverse history. The fallen of the Ryukyu Kingdom started here after 3000 men from mainland Japan seized control of the Nakijin Castle. From Nakijin, they marched south and took control of the entire island with little resistance.

As visitors stroll through the illuminated pathways during the festival, they are not just witnessing the spectacular bloom of sakura but also walking through the echoes of Okinawa’s past, where each petal seems to whisper stories of the island’s unique heritage and culture.
